our story
Flowerland was born in 1947, and we have been a neighborhood mainstay at 1330 Solano Avenue for over 75 years. Our constant evolution is woven into our mission: To celebrate and change with the seasons, to conserve and respond to the climate, and to plant in order to grow. We are a group of plant lovers and treasure hunters, who bring passion and respite to our busy, urban nursery and shop.
The Flowerland horticultural crew searches for unique plants, while relying on our California natural history, and observation of surrounding gardens, to teach us what grows best here. With salvaged wood and vintage elements, we create structure and make space. We bring in high-quality new things (for our space and yours) which speak to our aesthetic, and stand the test of time.
We treat our gardens like the ecosystems they are. We believe in biodiversity, beneficial insects, healthy soil, water resourcefulness, hard work, and forgiveness. The tireless growers and farmers who work alongside us are meticulous propagators. Our creative horticulturalists want to share what they know and find out what you know. This spirit of community, collaboration, and embracing change, is our foundation. What we build everyday, upon that foundation, is beautiful, green, healthy, and durable. In our 75 years, YOU have grown neighborhoods filled with mature trees and flourishing gardens. We are still planting seeds.
We are grateful to the stewards of Flowerland before us:
